[mk_padding_divider size=”20″]
[mk_padding_divider size=”20″]

What Time?
The gates will be open from 3pm on Friday 3rd May.
It doesn’t matter which event you have entered or on which day – your entry fee covers you for parking and camping from Friday afternoon.

Where can I park?
Our friendly volunteer parking marshals will show you where to park.
Please follow their instructions.

Where can I camp?
If you are camping/campervanning then the marshals will show you where to pitch your tent or park your van.
Remember NO open fires or BBQs of any sort!
Gas BBQs and camping stoves are allowed BUT ensure they are well away from anything flammable, this is particularly important after the dry weather we have had.   When pitching your tent please leave 3m between for fire safety.
Fire buckets will be available in each camping area.

[mk_image src=”http://theomm.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/screen-shot-2018-05-05-at-11.01.49-1.jpg”][mk_padding_divider size=”20″]

You won’t get vehicle access until the morning but can park in the public car park opposite the gate and walk into the event site to pitch your tent.

When can I register for my event?
You can register for all events in the main marquee between 3pm-11pm on Friday, from 7am on Saturday and (for the 10k only) from 8am on Sunday.
For the kids 2km fun trail race you can register on Saturday from 3pm – it’s free and starts at 4pm!
If you’re in a team you should register together and don’t forget your declaration.

Can I purchase Food when I arrive?
Yes!
Hot food is available until 9pm on Friday (bar until 22:30) and breakfast from 7-9am on Saturday morning, for full timings for the weekend have a look at the great menu.

What facilities are there?
We will provide plenty of toilets and several water taps.
There are no showers on site.

Can I bring my dog?
Yes!
Well-behaved dogs (and owners!) are welcome.
However, due to unfortunate incidents in the past, they must be kept on a lead in the HQ area and are NOT allowed into the main marquee.
Dogs are not allowed to run with competitors on the courses.

The 4th edition of the OMM Japan race will be held in the Nagano Prefecture where the 1998 winter Olympics was held. As with the UK race competitors race between as series of checkpoints to an overnight camp in the mountains. Carrying all their equipment for 2 days, teams need to be self reliant and be able to make good decisions in a mountainous environment.

The Japanese terrain is very steep and with a good chance of snow the race is a good challenge for all abilities.

[mk_toggle style=”fancy” title=”RULES AND CONDUCT”]Rules

In order to create a fair and equitable competition for each participant of the OMM and to guarantee the safety of the participants, these OMM rules have been created which regulate the behaviour of the participants as well as their clothing and equipment. Any participant who breaks these OMM rules can be excluded from the current competition and also from future competitions.

The Golden Rule: When a team has registered they must report back to the event centre by 16.30 on Sunday and return their SI card. If this does not happen, it is automatically assumed that this team is missing and a search is instigated. If the SI card is not returned before leaving the competition area and therefore a search is made, the resulting costs can be transferred to this team.

Minimum age for all participants is 16 years. For all children under the age of 18, a declaration of consent must be submitted by the parents.

Each participant must have a minimum of experience in the mountains and can safely navigate with a map and compass. Appropriate experience must be listed in the registration form.

The OMM is a competition for teams of 2 people. Team members must always remain within communicating distance throughout the period of the competition. Team members must visit all checkpoints together and have all the necessary equipment on them, e.g. both rucksacks must always be with the team and must not be deposited on the course. If a team member has to retire from the competition, the other team member must automatically retire from the competition. A team may only separate in an emergency if a participant can not move and the other participant needs to get help. In this case, the team must decide how best to proceed. If a participant in the competition area has to be left in such an emergency, it is the responsibility of the other team member that the injured person be left warm, dry and safe. On the competition map is the emergency telephone number, which must be used in this case. There is mobile coverage in almost all higher locations of the competition area.

Out of bounds areas and compulsory passages are clearly marked on the map and must be observed accordingly.

All equipment and clothing prescribed on the equipment list must be carried or worn during the entire competition. The equipment list is the absolute minimum required for a safe race. The equipment checklist must be signed by each participant and handed over at registration.

Each team must have a mobile phone with a SIM card that can be connected in the competition area. Telephones may only be used in the event of an emergency during the competition; it is also not allowed to use them at the overnight campsite.

GPS devices (also as part of a phone) may be carried, but not used during the competition, except in emergencies. GPS watches may be worn, but not used for navigation purposes. The use of a GPS device or a mobile phone (other than taking pictures) automatically leads to disqualification.

Participants who place themselves or others in danger, refuse to follow instructions from an official or are disrespectful to other competitors or officials may be disqualified from the current competition and excluded from future competitions. Interpretation of this rule is reserved to the discretion of the race management.

Participants must, on request, allow their equipment to be inspected at all times by officials, even after the finish line.

Teams must still have a minimum level of emergency food at the end of the competition.

Campfires are forbidden throughout the competition.

Night rest at the campsite is at 22.00, afterwards all noise is forbidden.

The start windows and the closing times of the race for both days are printed on the map and must be followed. Teams that do not comply with these times may be disqualified or may continue the race in an unofficial category with the permission of the race management.

Rubbish: There are rubbish containers at the competition centre and at the campsite. All rubbish must be carried during the race. Disregarding this will lead to disqualification.

Except in emergencies, participants are not allowed to take any help. This includes, for example, the purchase of food during the competition or help with navigation.

A race briefing is obligatory for all participants. Participants may not start without taking part in the briefing.

The organizer reserves the right to publicize the event by means of radio, television, print media and the Internet, as well as film and photo recordings of the events for its own press releases, PR and advertising purposes. The participant agrees to be filmed, photographed, interviewed and/or reproduced or presented in any other way during his/her participation in the event. In this respect, the participant grants the organizer free of charge the rights of use in the representation of his person and his voice exclusively, as well as in terms of space, time and content, without restriction for the above-mentioned purposes. In particular, the right to edit the film and photo recordings in any way, as well as the transfer of the rights of use to third parties, is also covered by the granting of rights.[/mk_toggle]

[mk_toggle style=”fancy” title=”EVENT CENTRE AND REGISTRATION”]Event centre to be confirmed..

More info coming soon.[/mk_toggle]

[mk_toggle style=”fancy” title=”KIT LIST & EQUIPMENT”]Equipment list

Each participant and each team must carry adequate equipment and clothing in order to be able to move independently in the mountains for 2 days in September. The list of equipment is the absolute minimum that must be carried along. Participants should decide on the weather, their own experience and abilities themselves, which other equipment they also have to take with them.

The organizer reserves the right to disqualify participants who, in the opinion of the race management, do not have the necessary equipment to be properly equipped in an emergency situation. Cotton clothing, for example, is not appropriate for an OMM.

Each participant must always have the following equipment:

  • Waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams
  • Waterproof long trousers with taped seams
  • Running clothes for the mountains
  • Extra to the running clothes a long-sleeved thermal shirt and a long trousers (this may not be worn at the start)
  • Warm top, long sleeve
  • Warm hat, gloves and socks
  • Shoes suitable for mud, gravel and trail running
  • Headlamp with minimum 12h battery power
  • Signal whistle
  • Compass
  • Bear bell
  • Map (provided by the organiser)
  • Insulated sleeping system
  • Pen and paper, both must be water resistant
  • Bivouac sack / emergency bag – no blanket, it must be a closed sack
  • Backpack, no hip bag
  • Emergency rations
  • Water carrying capacity
  • Sleeping bag and spare warm kit must be waterproofed.

Each team must always have the following equipment:

  • First aid pack – contents at competitors discretion
  • Cooking equipment with stove and enough fuel for 2 days, with sufficient fuel left at the end of the race in case of emergencies.
  • Tent. Without a sewn in ground sheet is acceptable
  • Food for 2 people for 2 days

[/mk_toggle]

[mk_toggle style=”fancy” title=”COURSE OPTIONS”]As usual in this kind of competition, the exact course will not be announced until the start line of the event, where the maps are marked with checkpoints. The OMM Alps has two different types of courses: linear and score.

Linear courses: The checkpoints must be visited in the correct order between start and finish. The checkpoints are connected on the map with a straight line, but the route is freely selectable, after the inclusion of restricted areas, etc. Winner is the team with the shortest time of the sum of both days, ie the fastest wins. Important is a good route selection and above all efficient and fast running.

A Course: Goal time for the fastest teams is 10 hours (both days added). The course on both days together is about 65 km with 3000 altitude increase.

B Course: Goal time for the fastest teams is 7 hours (both days added) The course on both days together is about 55 km with a 2500 altitude increase.

C Course: Goal time for the fastest teams is 5 hours (both days added) The course on both days together is about 35 km with a 2000 altitude increase

Score Courses: Each checkpoint has a score of 10 to 50 points. During a fixed time, you can run any number of items in any order. The team with the highest score (point sum of the two days) wins. If multiple teams have the same score, the team wins with the faster run time. If you exceed the maximum running time, points are deducted, 2 points per begun minute above the maximum time. Here are an efficient strategy and a good route selection are vital. A big advantage is that you can always shorten your course and still score. You do not have to take the maximum time, depending on how you feel. The items are set so that it is unlikely that teams will be able to collect all the checkpoints, so the course length will also challenge the fastest teams.

Long Score: Allowed running time 7 hours on Saturday and 6 hours on Sunday

Short Score: Allowed running time 5 hours on Saturday and 4 hours on Sunday[/mk_toggle]

[mk_toggle style=”fancy” title=”RACE INFORMATION”]Start time

The start times on Saturday will be announced in the “Final Information Email” for each team before the race. Teams who miss their start time must report to the manager of the start zone and can get a new starting time. However, depending on availability, this may result in a longer waiting period. Start times for Sunday are also announced in the “Final Information Email”. However, these times may change depending on the results during the event. Participants must check independently on the bulletin board on Saturday evening, whether their starting times for Sunday have changed.

Campsite on Saturday

The overnight stay during the Saturday night race is on a simple meadow. Water is provided, but this is not drinking water and must be treated accordingly. Toilets are available and rubbish can be disposed of in the containers provided. Only the provided toilets may be used. Teams may only stay in this area and leave the grounds only in case of an emergency after consultation with the race management. Only participants are allowed to enter the meadow, friends, relatives and supporters are not allowed to enter.

Map

The competition map has been drawn specifically for the OMM Japan on the scale 1-40,000m, contours at 15m. Cartography symbols are slightly different than on standard topographical maps, so the legend should be read. On the map, race-specific details are marked: start, finish, campground, restricted areas, compulsory routes, etc. and checkpoints. Item descriptions are printed on the map. If a SI station does not work, it can be punched on the card with punching tongs.

Maps are only issued at the respective start, one per participant. There are different maps for Saturday and Sunday, so there are a total of 4 cards per team.

Time

The whole time is taken with an electronic stamping system. Sportident SI Cards are used for the timing. Each team gets a SI Card which a participant must wear on the wrist for the entire race. Before the start, the “Clear” and then the “Check” box must be punched. At the start time the “start” box has to be punched. Teams who forget to punch the start will not place in the results. The time is stopped by punching the finish. Examples are shown during racing briefing.

All checkpoints have at least one control box, which must be punched. A sound can be heard while punching and a small lamp lights up. If the control box does not work, the map can be be stamped with a manual punch on the control. On some checkpoints there are several control boxes to avoid waiting times. Only one box needs to be punched.

The SI cards are fastened to the wrist with a band and can only be removed on the Sunday. If the SI Card is removed during the race, there is a risk of disqualification. If the SI Card is lost (even if accidentally taken after the race), the participant must pay 50 Euros. Own SI cards are not allowed.

Day 2 Goal – end of the competition

The finish is in the immediate vicinity of the event centre. The competition time ends when the SI Card is punched in the finish box. In the event centre, teams must then return their SI Card, receive their deposit and possibly deposited car keys and get a voucher for the free meal. Prize giving takes place as soon as the results are fixed.

Safety / Emergency

The mountain rescue is available with vehicles on site. In case of an emergency, please call the race management.

Up to Sunday 3rd September 2018.  Changes to your team and to the course you have entered can be made by logging into your OMM account.

After Sunday 3rd September 2018.  Amendments to teams can be made at registration or by emailing  jeff@nomadics.jp (up until Fri 8 Sep 17).  If making changes at registration the new member of the team must present himself/herself at registration in order to complete the necessary paperwork. It is up to the team to find replacement partners.  Course changes at this point will only be allowed if space is available.

CANCELLATION OR DEFERMENT OF ENTRIES

For any cancellations received up to 16th June 2018, a 90% refund is made.  After this date we cannot offer a refund as we have already paid for your attendance.  The event is run on a not for profit basis and one of the ways of keeping the costs as low as possible is to agree numbers as far in advance of the event as possible, hence why it becomes more expensive to enter as we get closer to the event.  For these reasons we are unable to defer entries to future events.[/mk_toggle]

The organisation of the competition is conducted by a small army of unpaid volunteer helpers drawn from a wide variety of clubs and organisations, including the many faithful stalwarts who help out every year and without whose experience it would not be possible to conduct such an event.  These teams of volunteers allow us to keep the entry fees as low as possible to benefit you.

Each team must have a mobile phone.

Mobiles may only be used in the event of an emergency during the competition.

[/mk_toggle]

[mk_toggle style=”fancy” title=”PRIZES AND CLASS CRITERIA”]The presentation of prizes will take place near the refreshment area.  Prizes will consist of vouchers to spend on OMM products and the value of each team prize is shown below.

VETERANS HANDICAP

The calculation of the handicap has been changed for 2018 following competitor feedback; now only the age of the older team member is considered, and woman are given an additional handicap equivalent to 10 years.

This is how the percentage handicap will be calculated:

  • A team is eligible for a handicap if both members are 45 or older on the Saturday of the event. This applies to both men and women.
  • To calculate the handicap, ten years is added to the age of women and then the greater of the team’s two ages is used as the handicap age.
  • The handicap percentage is then calculated as 1% for every year over 45.
  • Here are some examples:
  • A team of two men aged 50 and 55 has a 10% handicap.
  • A team of a man aged 55 and a woman aged 50 has a 15% handicap.
  • A team of a man aged 55 and a woman aged 44 is NOT eligible.
  • A team of two men aged 40 and 70 is NOT eligible.

This is how the percentage handicap is used:

  • For a linear course the total time over the two days is reduced by the handicap percentage.
  • For score courses the total points score over the two days is increased by the handicap percentage. If the total points score over the two days is negative, no adjustment is made.
  • Here are some examples:
  • If the total time over two days on a linear class is 8 hours 30 minutes and the handicap is 10%, the time used for veteran results is 7 hours 39 minutes.
  • If the total score over two days on a score course is 800 points and the handicap is 20%, the score used for veteran results is 960 points.

FAMILY TEAM

A family team consists of 2 members who are closely related and from a different generation e.g. father and daughter, grandmother and grandson.

Prizes to be presented as per current entries (prizes are per team):

Team A B Long Short
1st Overall Team £80 £80 £80 £80
2nd Overall Team £60 £60 £60 £60
3rd Overall Team £50 £50 £50 £50
1st Female Team £60 £60 £60

1st Mixed Team £60 £60 £60
2nd Mixed Team £50
1st Vets Team £60 £60
2nd Vets Team £50
1st Family Generation Team £60

The OMM is a not for profit adventure race and the purpose of the prizes is to recognise outstanding achievement.[/mk_toggle]

[mk_toggle style=”fancy” title=”COURSE OPTIONS”]The OMM aims to offer a range of courses that supports movement up and down the scale of difficulty and nature of challenge.  The score courses are the best option for those who want the flexibility to choose the distances that they cover.

Please ensure you complete the ‘previous experience’ section on your entry and we may contact you to discuss your choice of course if we have safety concerns.  We recommend the Short Score course for first time OMM competitors.

The courses are only disclosed to competitors on issue of the map at the start line.  A separate map is issued each day. Controls locations are marked with a circle and the legend will give control descriptions and the time each control closes.

LINEAR (LINE) COURSES

Time based courses; where specified checkpoints must be visited in order. Teams are free to choose their routes between the checkpoints.  Fastest time wins.  This is a timed navigation course where specified checkpoints must be visited in order.

A COURSE

Approximately 55km (straight line distance) over two days with 4300m of climbing.  The winning time is in the region of 10 hours. In order to compete on this course we strongly recommend previous race experience on the B Course or a similar event.

B COURSE

Approximately 38km (straight line distance) over two days with 2400m of climbing.  The winning time is in the region of 7 hours. In order to compete on this course we strongly recommend previous race experience on the B Course or a similar event.

SCORE COURSES

Highest score based courses; a fixed period where competitions accrue as many points as possible in the time allowed.  Checkpoints are assigned points values based on the difficulty of location. Competitors choose a route that gains them the highest score. 2 Points are deducted for every minute or part thereof outside of their time allowance. On a score course you can choose to finish before your time expires should you need to. These course are easier to complete than Linear but very difficult to do well competitively due to the increased amount of planning required.

LONG SCORE

Time limit of 7 hours on day 1 and 6 hours on day 2. Significant hill experience and fitness is required.

SHORT SCORE

Time limit of 5 hours on day 1 and 4 hours on day 2.  We recommend this course for 1st time competitors.[/mk_toggle]

[mk_toggle style=”fancy” title=”RACE INFORMATION”]Start time

The start times on Saturday will be announced on the bulletin board at the event centre. Teams who miss their start time must report to the manager of the start zone and can get a new starting time. However, depending on availability, this may result in a longer waiting period.

Map

The competition map has been drawn specifically for the OMM Alps on the scale 1-30,000m, contours at 20m. Cartography symbols are slightly different than on standard topographical maps, so the legend should be read. On the map, race-specific details are marked: start, finish, campground, restricted areas, compulsory routes, etc. and checkpoints. Item descriptions are printed on the map. If a SI station does not work, note the station code with pen on your map.

In case of an emergency, please call the race management at +49 172 8636042. Immediately call the emergency call 144 in a life-threatening situation.

Changes to your team can be made to your team by emailing germany@theomm.com.

Closer to the event. Amendments to teams can be made at registration or by emailing  germany@theomm.com.  If making changes at registration the new member of the team must present himself/herself at registration in order to complete the necessary paperwork. It is up to the team to find replacement partners.  Course changes at this point will only be allowed if space is available.

CANCELLATION OR DEFERMENT OF ENTRIES

For any cancellations received up to 6 weeks before the event a 90% refund can be given.

[mk_toggle style=”fancy” title=”ORGANISERS & PLANNERS”] ORGANISATION AND CONTACT

OMM and Outdoors Magic have teamed up to bring you three epic trail races around Cannock Chase.

Starting close to the OMM Festival Event HQ; the course will lead runners through forest, over hills and discovering new routes for all.  The route will be flagged and marshalled with GPX files available for download prior to the race day.  OMM’s ethos is to encourage responsible enjoyment of the countryside, as such, competitors will be expected to carry sufficient food and emergency kit for their individual requirements.  There will, of course, be waterpoints along the routes.  We spend the months prior to the event gaining the relevant land permissions so you can enjoy the race in the knowledge that you will be having a minimal ecological impact on this beautiful area.   You’ll be cheered back into the event centre by the 1000 other competitors competing in the various other activities on offer at the festival.  Events are taking place on Saturday and Sunday so why not take advantage of the free camping/campervan space for each competitor and stay for the weekend!  Non competing supporters are welcome and food and drink will be available all weekend.

UK’s first ever disability inclusive off road race has been created after competitors were turned away from other races.

Chris Nicholson, who has pushed his way to the top of Snowdon in his wheelchair, has joined event organisers OMM to setup the first ever able bodied & disabled inclusive trail race in the UK at Cannock Chase on the 5th May.

“it’s up to us to set the challenge, not decide whether a person can do it or not. We will welcome anyone who thinks they can complete the 10km trail course.”

Chris who has help set the course with OMM planners said “We wanted everyone to have the same challenge”. The race is unique, the route has not been altered in any way to make it easier for any particular competitor, this is to be a true test of everyone’s grit and determination.

Able & disabled competitors will line up together.  The race is so unique that representatives from Guinness World Records will create a new Trail Race category for the Wheelchair Class within the race.

Any participant who breaks these rules can be disqualified from the current competition and also from future competitions.

  1. The Golden Rule: When a competitor has registered they must report back to the event centre in accordance with course closure times and return their timing tag. If this does not happen, it is automatically assumed that this competitor is missing and a search is instigated. If the timing tag is not returned before leaving the competition area and therefore a search is made, the resulting costs can be transferred to the competitor.
  2. Minimum age for all participants is 18 years.
  3. Competitors must follow the race route and check in at any designated checkpoints.   Random checkpoints may be set up along the route to ensure this happens.
  4. If a participant decides to withdraw from the race, he or she must notify the closest manned checkpoint or telephone the emergency number and MUST report back to the Event HQ to return their timing tag.
  5. In an emergency, participants should provide assistance to other competitors.
  6. This is a self-sufficient race. Water stops are provided. Supporters are welcome but, to keep it fair for all must not assist competitors by providing them with food and drink on route or run alongside (this does not apply to disabled athletes who may have a helper run with them).
  7. All mandatory kit must be carried or worn at all times. A kit checklist and declaration must be signed by each participant and handed in at registration. Participants must, on request, allow their equipment to be inspected by officials.
  8. Race Numbers must be worn in a visible place.
  9. All rubbish must be disposed of correctly.
  10. Well behaved dogs are welcome at the event HQ but must be kept on a lead at all times.  Dogs are NOT allowed to accompany competitors on the course.
  11. Sport Ident timing cards are issued to each team at registration (attached to the wrist).  Competitors will be charged the cost of replacement (currently £35.00) for any loss or damage to these.
  12. The following may lead to disqualification:
  • Finishing the race after the cut-off time
  • Taking short cuts or leaving the paths and trails.
  • Ignoring marshal instructions
  • Dropping of any rubbish
  • Using any means of transport during the race
  • Competitors who, in the opinion of the organisers, act in such a way to bring the event into disrepute or unnecessarily endanger or disrespect other competitors, race officials or members of the public.

We are very pleased to say that this year’s 10km trail race will be open to disabled athletes.

Please read on for some important information that you MUST be aware of before entering.

Chris Nicholson, who summited Snowdon in his wheelchair last year, has been the inspiration for this change, along with our desire to get as many people as possible out enjoying physical challenges in the hills and mountains.   Together with Chris we have put to together some information about the event that you should read before entering.

THE ROUTE

Rather than have a separate wheelchair route we have one all-inclusive route, with disabled athletes starting a few minutes ahead of the runners.

This i a trail race, it is challenging.   There are steep sections and the ground includes everything from well maintained, flat fire roads to narrower tracks with gravel, grass and a bit of mud!

There will be a water stop at the 5km point which is next to a car park.

Chris has tested the route and details of the equipment he recommends can be found below.  The basic route can be seen on the google map above and OS map of the route will be available shortly along with photographs.    Please do contact emma@theomm.com if you would like more information.

KIT/EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Off road tyres with front wheel add-on (rear heel strap must be in place).
  • Water carrying capability
  • Full leg cover
  • Helmet* (must be worn at all times whilst on the course)
  • Basic tool kit

*Bell Helmets are producing 10 x full face helmets specifically for the race!  The Bell team will be on site and these helmets will be available to use on the day on a first come first served basis.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

You will need to be proficient in moving your wheelchair over technical off-road terrain and if you would like someone to run with you and assist this is not a problem.  Miles without stiles are a good starting place.    We suggest you should already have completed 10km of trail in approx 2 hours. (although we will have a generous cut off of 3 hours).  We are hoping to have a skills session with Chris Nicholson on Saturday at the Event HQ (time TBC).

ASSISTANCE ON THE COURSE

If you would like someone to run with you and assist (at no extra cost) this is not a problem.

If you are unable to get back into your wheelchair unaided after a fall, you must bring someone to run with you to help in the case of a fall

INSURANCE/LIABILITY

OMM will not be responsible for any damage to your wheelchair or other equipment so we strongly advise that you have your own insurance to cover this.   All competitors are asked to sign a declaration confirming they are aware of the rules, equipment requirements and safety information before taking part.

If you need any further information please don’t hesitate to get in touch with emma@theomm.com[/mk_toggle][mk_toggle style=”fancy” title=”REGISTRATION, START TIMES, CUT OFFS AND TIMING”]

Your SI-tag should be placed into the hole on each checkpoint and at the finish in order to register that you have visited the location; it gives an audible bleep and a visual flash to confirm that it has been successful.

CHECKPOINTS

There will be checkpoint control boxes at each of the water stops (these will be marked on the map)  and at each one you must ensure that you record your visit by placing your SI-tag into the hole on the control station (see more info below).

MANNED CHECKPOINTS/WATER STOPS

There will be manned checkpoints on each course with water, 5 on the marathon, 3 on the 1/2 and 1 on the 10km.  The locations will be shown on the map and at registration and on the OS maps in the ‘Route Information’ section above.   To minimise use of plastic we will be dispensing water in reusable cups, if you prefer to bring your own cup please do so.

FINISH LINE

At the finish line you MUST place your SI-tag in the finish box to record your time.  Officials will be there to ensure this happens.  Once you cross the Finish line you will be directed to the download station where you will dib your tag and be given a print out showing your time.  Your tag will then be removed.

SAFETY

Each competitor will be issued with an timing tag.   Your tag is the way we can tell who is still out on the course. Therefore, all tags MUST be returned to the event centre as soon as you finish to avoid unnecessary search parties![/mk_toggle][mk_toggle style=”fancy” title=”PHYSIO, SPORTS MASSAGE AND GAIT ANALYSIS”]We are very pleased to have the team from Achilles Physio at this year’s OMM Festival.  They will be available throughout the weekend for physio appointments including sports massage and gait analysis.  There will also be a workshop on gait analysis in the marquee at 8pm on Friday.

In order to conduct the competition on a fair and equal basis for all participants, and ensure safety, it is necessary to apply rules governing a competitor’s conduct, clothing and equipment. These rules, which are set out below will be STRINGENTLY enforced. Anyone found to be in breach of these rules will be automatically disqualified from the current event and potentially banned from future events.

1. THE GOLDEN RULE: Once registered, competitors must report to the event headquarters and download (and on Sunday return their scoring tag) by 17:00 hours whether they have completed the course or not. If this is not done the team is deemed missing and will be searched for!

2. All competitors must be 14 years on the day of the competition and the combined age of the team must be at least 35 years.  Any competitor under the age of 16 not competing with their parent/guardian must complete a parental consent form.  Younger competitors may be considered on a case by case basis – please email emma@theomm.com.

3. At least one member of the team must be able to read a map using a compass, without the aid of GPS devices.

4. The event is for solos or teams of two or three.  Teams must maintain contact (communicate by voice) throughout the competition. Both team members must visit the control sites together carrying all their equipment. ie: if running rucksacks must be in possession of the teams at all times and both team members must dib in the control box.  If one member of the team cannot continue the whole team is retired – the map provides an emergency telephone number.  In the case of an emergency, teams must exercise their own judgment as to the appropriate action to take, including leaving a partner in a warm safe environment to seek help from others.

5.  This is NOT an open access event.  All competitors must keep to public or permissive rights of way (as per event map). Out of Bounds areas and compulsory crossing points are also marked on the event map and must be respected.

6. Teams must carry or wear the equipment and clothing on the official kit list. This is the absolute minimum for safety.  A signed kit list and declaration form must be handed in at registration.

7. Well behaved dogs are welcome at the event HQ but must be kept on a lead at all times.  Dogs are NOT allowed to accompany competitors on the course.

8. Competitors must not seek to obtain unfair advantage by searching for courses or inspecting the competition area before the event. Note: Access permission to the competition area is restricted to the weekend of the event only.

9.   We encourage you to carry a fully charged mobile phone for use in an emergency, but they must not be used for navigation.  You may also wear or carry a GPS device (i.e. watch) to track your run/ride (for your use after the event) but again they must not be used for navigation.  Anyone found using their mobile phone or other electronic device for navigation purposes will be disqualified from the event.  We rely on the integrity of our competitors to follow this rule. (unless we remove all electronic devices from every competitor there is no other way for us to enforce this).

10. Competitors who, in the opinion of the organisers, act in such a way to bring the event into disrepute or unnecessarily endanger other competitors or race officials will be disqualified and may be banned.

11. Competitors must permit the examination of their equipment by race officials at all times.

12. On completion of the course all competitors must still be in possession of sufficient rations for an emergency.

13. No open fires or charcoal BBQs permitted at the Event HQ/camping field.

14.  Sport Ident timing cards are issued to each team at registration (attached to the wrist).  Competitors will be charged the cost of replacement (currently £35) for any loss or damage to these.

15. OMM Bike only – e-bikes are welcome but the organisers must be informed you will be riding one (e-bike competitors will be non competitive.

14.  OMM Ltd reserve the right to use any digital media captured at the event for promotional/marketing purposes.[/mk_toggle][mk_toggle style=”fancy” title=”EVENT CENTRE, CAMPING AND TRAVEL”]

Example Map:

Short Score

The Short Score – fixed period competition with time limits of 5 hours on the first day followed by 4 hours on the second where teams accrue as many points as possible. Checkpoints are assigned points values based on their location and teams are free to choose their route to gain the highest score possible. Points are deducted for being outside your allocated time limit at a rate of 2 points per minute or part thereof. This course is as challenging as you choose to make it and is perfect for first time competitors or those wishing to take a more relaxed approach to the competition. You will still need to be able to read a map.

Long Score

The Long Score – fixed period competition with a time limit of 7 hours on the first day and 5 hours on the second day where teams accrue as many points as possible. Checkpoints are assigned points values based on location with competitors free to choose permitted routes for the highest score. This course tests navigation ability and is as physically as challenging as you choose to make it. Points are deducted for being outside your allocated time limit at a rate of 2 points per minute or part thereof. Experience and fitness is required. Teams with members under the age of 18 should have competed on the Short Score or similar courses in the past.[/mk_toggle][mk_toggle style=”fancy” title=”KIT LIST”]EACH COMPETITOR MUST WEAR OR CARRY THE FOLLOWING:

All competitors are required hand a signed Kit Check List and Declaration to Registration before competing[/mk_toggle][mk_toggle style=”fancy” title=”THE RACE”]THE START

At your allotted start time head to the start line with all your equipment.  You will be given any final information and your map  (a new one on each day), on which are all the checkpoint locations available for that day and how many points they are worth.  You will then dib your timing tag in the START box and your time will begin – please move away from the start line to do any planning of your route.

The team that collects the most points in the time allowed wins. One benefit of the score course is that you don’t have to stay out for the whole time allowance and can finish when you choose.

PUNCHING AT A CONTROL POINT

Each checkpoint will have the standard orienteering orange and white sign with control station attached to it. Each competitor will be issued with an SI-tag. SI-tags are small plastic pegs which have an electronic chip in one end. Your SI-tag should be dibbed into the hole at each control station in order for competitors to register that they have visited the control; it gives an audible bleep and a visual flash to confirm that the dibbing has been successful.

In the unlikely event that the control station doesn’t register, please record your visit on your map by writing the 3 letters shown on the control box into the space provided and report the fact to the marshals and after you pass through the finish.

After finishing on day 1 you will be directed to the download station where you will dib your tag and be given a print out showing the controls visited with points and split times. Please move away from the area THEN check your printout. If anything is wrong or you need to report having to punch manually, proceed to the enquiry point.  Make sure to keep your tag on overnight to use on the second day.   At the end of day 2 you will follow the same procedure and your SI-tag will be removed.

SI-TAG

The SI tag will be attached loosely to your wrist at registration using a tamper proof wrist strap. This must remain attached all weekend and be cut off you either when you finish or if you retire but only at the Event centre. You will be at risk of disqualification if you remove the tag from your wrist. You will quickly get used to carrying the tag on your wrist. Wrists do swell during exercise and providing it has been attached loosely; you will hardly notice that you are wearing it overnight. If you lose, break or take a tag home with you the charge will be £35.00 the use of your own SI-tag is not allowed.

SAFETY

The tag has your team number printed on it and is the only way we can tell who is still out on the course. All tags MUST be returned to the event centre by 17:00 on the Sunday before you leave the competition area: Missing tag = Missing team = Search party.

THE FINISH

The finish point will be shown on competitor’s maps.  Pairs must finish together. Failure to finish as a team will lead to disqualification.  After you have finished, please go immediately to download where you will be given your score printout, then make your way to the food area, show your printout and enjoy some well deserved hot food and drink![/mk_toggle][mk_toggle style=”fancy” title=”BRITISH MOUNTAIN BIKING ORGANISATION (BMBO)”]BMBO

CANCELLATION OR DEFERMENT OF ENTRIES

For any cancellations received up to  3 March 19, a refund (minus 10% admin fee) is made.  After this date we cannot offer a refund as we have already paid for your attendance.  The event is run on a not for profit basis and one of the ways of keeping the costs as low as possible is to agree numbers as far in advance of the event as possible, hence why it becomes more expensive to enter as we get closer to the event.  For these reasons we are also unable to defer entries to future events.[/mk_toggle][mk_toggle style=”fancy” title=”ORGANISERS & PLANNERS”]ORGANISATION AND PLANNING
