LEANWEIGHT 130g
PRIMALOFT® ACTIVE 75g

A new concept in active insulation, the OMM Core Range is made entirely from PrimaLoft® ACTIVE ultra-light insulating fabric. Built from a synthetic plume woven through a knitted mesh, Core offers the warmth of a fleece but at less-than half the weight.

Paired with an overtrouser shell, the Core Tights are an incredibly effective insulator but thanks to near-total air permeability, excessive heat build easily dissipates. A true valley to summit piece. Core tights uses the 75g weight Core fabric providing extra warmth on wintery or long runs. Core works wet or dry with incredible wicking properties to ensure you won’t stay wet for long. Whilst panels of stretch nylon Flexile provide added protection with good wind and water resistance over the knees

ADAPTIVE INSULATION

PrimaLoft® ACTIVE Insulating Fabric weaves PrimaLoft® fibres onto a mesh, giving a super high volume and open structure. Fabrics insulate by trapping pockets of air that the wearer’s heat cannot pass through. Core structure is exceptional at creating these pockets. However the openness also allows for a light breeze to disturb these air pockets and remove the insulation effect. Cover with a shell to create an incredibly warm system for cold weather adventures.

HALF THE WEIGHT & PACK SIZE

A single mesh fabric holds the insulation plume in place, reducing the need for extra fabric layers and halving the weight and pack size.

FINEST QUALITY SYNTHETIC INSULATION

At OMM we always choose synthetic insulation over down to be sure that we can get warm even when everything is wet. We believe PrimaLoft® make the best synthetic insulation and so it is an easy choice for us. 75g/m2 PrimaLoft® ACTIVE uses 58% post-consumer recycled material, it is also bluesign and Oeke-Tex approved.

Shorts or Leggings?

Some runners will only wear a full length legging when there is a foot of snow on the ground and a howling gale. Some will even hold out then, opting instead for chapped legs and snow-burnt shins! What to wear whilst running is very personal choice but OMM offers a range of Legwear to cover (get it!) a wide range of options. For fast and light racing, check out the Speed Short, a classic split short made for going fast. Or for those in-between days go for the Flash 0.75, a 3/4 length tight that will see most through winter. When snow is on the ground it is a good idea to protect your shins, the Flash 1.0 will do just that. For multi-day adventures or wearing over a legging, the versatility of the PaceLite Short is a good option too.

What about waterproofs?

You will find our waterproof Legwear both here and over on the Outer Layer Page. So if you’re looking for a full waterproof outfit to satisfy kit list needs, head over there. If you’re just looking for stuff that covers your pins, you’ll find it here.

Leg length and fit

You can find our Size Guide via the link on each product page, this includes measurement ranges for each size. You can also find our Fit Guide there too. Our performances fabrics usually work best close to the skin and we make our Legwear in a relatively close fit to reduces drag and bulk whilst moving quickly in the mountains. Our leg lengths also reflect this; often shorter than traditional hiking or streetwear, this is to keep fabric out of the way of running feet. In the case of waterproofs, it is less essential to create a seal with your footwear, as with hiking overtrousers,  since you’re likely to be plunging into rivers and bogs and most running footwear isn’t waterproof. Some of our Legwear is a Unisex Fit, in which case it is often best to go down a size for Women.

Do we use Lycra?

Yes, a bit. We use Lycra in our Flash range of tights but not much. We could make them super stretchy, just like those fashionable high street leggings but we don’t for a reason. Lycra is super stretchy, which is great, but other than that it doesn’t have many other properties that a mountain runner might look for in a piece of Legwear. It is not very thermally insulating, very quick drying or wicking and can lead to quite a cool feeling against the skin; not what you want on a rain-soaked summit. So we keep the Lycra content to minimum and instead use clever panelling of the fabrics, orientating them to optimise the direction of stretch throughout the running motion; clever stuff!

What's the fit like?

Most OMM Clothing tends towards the “fitted” end of things. Designed for performance use, the fabrics often work best close to the skin whilst also reducing drag and bulk when moving quickly. We use three different fits in our clothing ranges; Contact Fit, Fitted & Regular Fit. This gives you an idea of how the Midlayer is meant to look and fit. You’ll find a link to the Fit Guide on each product page. You also find a link to our Size Guide, a more in depth table that shows measurement ranges for each size. Midlayers should fit comfortably over a First Layer and are designed to work well with our Outer Layers.

What is Core?

A new concept in active insulation; the OMM CORE Range is made entirely from PRIMALOFT ACTIVE ultra-light insulating fabric.
Built from a synthetic plume woven through a knitted mesh, CORE offers the warmth of a fleece but with less than half the weight.
Paired with a shell, the CORE is an incredibly effective insulator but thanks to near-total air permeability, the lightest breeze can take away that heat. This allows you to keep your CORE layer on even when you have warmed up and you can thermoregulate by removing/unzipping your shell.
CORE works wet or dry with incredible wicking properties to ensure you won’t stay wet for long.

How do I care for my OMM Midlayer?

Just like owning a top end sports car, a piece of performance clothing is only as good as how well you care for it. In the same way a sports car still needs oil changes and screen wash, you need to regularly maintain your OMM Midlayer to keep it performing at its best. It is important to follow the Product Care Instructions and use the correct wash  product as these can affect your clothing’s performance. In the case of CORE, we recommend turning it inside out and doing up all zips. Also avoid washing with other clothing that uses velcro. Care Guide Here

Pullover or zipped?

We use a combination of pullover and zipped styles in our Midlayers. Which you prefer comes down to personal preference and end use. A pullover tends to be lighter (no zips to weigh you down) but may be more awkward to pull on and off when the need arises. A full zip means its easy to pull on and allows for venting but it adds a little more bulk and the fit tends to be not quite as close and lots of zipped layers under a zipped shell can mean a stack of zipper pulls under your chin. Either way, both will do the trick, its up to you to decide!
