OMM competitor packing a rucksack in the evening sun

Mountain marathon kit guide

Pack for
the OMM.

Two days. Your team.
Everything you need.

Start your checklist

Start with the essentials.

Each individual and team is responsible for being properly equipped for two days of unsupported racing in exposed terrain at the end of October. Use the mandatory equipment checklist below to tick off your kit as you pack.

Your responsibility

This list is a minimum requirement only. Check the weather forecast and use your previous experience and sound judgement to decide what you should wear and carry.

The organisers reserve the right to disqualify any competitors who, in their opinion, do not have the necessary kit to survive in an emergency situation.

Kit checks & registration

Random kit checks may take place at any time during the weekend.

You do not need to bring your kit to registration. Bring just one rucksack so that the tracker can be attached.

Each competitor must wear or carry every item marked Personal.

Each team must carry all items marked Team at all times: cooking equipment, stove and fuel; one tent with a sewn-in groundsheet; and food for 36 hours for two or three people.

Spare warm kit must be waterproofed, for example in a dry bag. Cotton clothing is not suitable.

Food & water

Fuel for the hill. Something hot at camp. Plan food, water carrying and cooking equipment together. Personal + team kit Open checklistHide checklist

Your team must carry the cooking equipment, stove, fuel and food at all times. Each competitor also needs their own emergency rations and water carrying capacity.

Sleep & shelter

Make camp. Get warm. Rest for day two. Carry your own sleep system and share a shelter with your team. Personal + team kit Open checklistHide checklist

All team members must sleep in the same tent on Saturday night for safety, ensuring no one is left alone (rule 5). Spare warm kit and insulated sleeping systems must be waterproofed.
