What's a Sleep System?

A Sleep System normally just refers to a usually just a standard insulated sleeping bag but there are some other innovative ideas out there such as our own Rotor Sleep System that uses insulated trousers (that unzip to form a half sleeping bag) that then clip into our insulated jackets and the Foot Pod to complete it. So whilst not technically a sleeping *bag* it is an insulated sleep system!

Taped Seams? "What about Param-"

Nope. If it doesn’t have taped seams it doesn’t pass kit check. Yes we know there are other systems out there and yes we know cheap rubbishy waterproofs can also have taped seams but as the RO (Race Organiser) this is our decision. Taped Seams or nothing. And what is a Taped Seam: Seams covered with tape to prevent water ingress in waterproof clothing. Sewing two pieces of fabric together requires the making of holes for the thread, an issue when making waterproof clothing. To overcome this, it is necessary to cover the seams with waterproof tape, using a heat-activated adhesive. All OMM Waterproofs have taped seams and are fully race compliant.

How Much Is An Emergency Ration?

Be sensible. This is about what you need to safely survive in an emergency on the hill; in cold & wet whilst most likely already fatigued. Yes, technically a single jelly bean might count but Kit Check will reject it since it is not a Sound Mountain Judgement.  Bung a couple of extra sachets of rehydrated food in and get on with it!

Will a Foil Blanket Do?

Nope! A foil blanket will just blow away with the first gust then you’ll die. Survival bag, the kind you or the casualty can actually get in. Doesn’t have to be foil, could be plastic or a bivi bag.
