MOUNTAIN MARATHON KIT LIST

Mountain marathons, trail races or fell races usually require you to take a certain amount of kit and equipment with you to keep you safe when out on the course. This will be outlined in the Mandatory Kit List.

Here at OMM, we design clothing and equipment for the purpose of mountain marathons. Fast & light protection for even the most extreme weather that won’t weigh you down (too much).

KIT LIST

The Mandatory Kit List should be seen as the minimum requirements only. Check the weather forecast, use your previous experience and sound judgement to decide the kit you should be wearing and carrying.

CLOTHING

  • Taped seams waterproof jacket with hood
  • Taped seams waterproof trousers
  • Clothing suitable for mountain running/walking (include full leg cover)
  • Warm layer top.
  • Hat (not a Buff), gloves & socks
  • Footwear suitable for fell and trail use
  • Spare warm kit

If not being worn, we recommend all this is kept in a waterproof bag (e.g., a dry bag)

EQUIPMENT

  • Head torch capable of giving useable light for a minimum of 12 hours
  • Whistle & compass
  • Map (as supplied)
  • Pen/pencil for map marking (on waterproof paper) in wet conditions
  • First aid equipment
  • Survival bag (not a sheet)
  • Rucksack
  • Fully charged mobile phone

FOOD AND WATER

  • Emergency rations (should still have at the finish line)
  • Water carrying capability
  • Cooking equipment including stove with sufficient fuel for duration of the race, plus some spare for emergency use left at the end of the event (only one per team is needed)
  • Food for 36 hours

SLEEP SYSTEM

  • Insulated sleeping system
  • Tent with sewn-in groundsheet (all team members must share a tent [the whole point is so you can keep an eye on each other’s condition and safety!])
