The Phantom 18 is a slimline VestPack for adventure racing. Stabilised around your spine, our unique 7-point harness connects the pack with the runner’s spine via a top yoke-style harness to provide the most stable carry possible. The yoke harness also frees the shoulders allowing a more energy efficient-running action. Dual V-shaped anchors hug the waist to provide a secure fit and control bounce and swing when on uneven ground.

The shorter back length is well suited to smaller frames or shorter backs.

Tested on the 330km Tor Des Géants race during development and used by the OMM hill team in extreme conditions. It passed.

Combining the capacity of a pack with the upfront accessibility of a vest, ideal for multi-day racing or ultra challenges where regular stops to grab kit aren’t an option.

STABILISATION

Stabilised around your spine, the Phantom Suspension system utilises a narrow yoke behind the neck to attach the pack to the spine, rather than the shoulders, allowing the shoulders to move freely increasing the efficiency of your action.

SHOCK ABSORPTION

Two shock absorbing suspension cords over the shoulder work in tandem to further reduce swing, keeping the pack in line with the spine.

The weight of the pack is taken by the yoke attachment point with shock absorption and swing controlled by the tensioned bungees over each shoulder.

VERTICAL STABILITY

Vertical movement is reduced by two equalised anchor points fed to a shared adjuster. This creates a very stable Y-shape that hugs the vest pack into the lower spine. When the runner pushes off, the weight pulls on the lower strap, as the runner drops back down the upper strap tightens preventing the shoulder loosening.

Vest or WaistBelt?

This is a personal choice and can depend on distance to be covered, kit list and even a bit of tradition. Many people like the simplicity of a WaistBelt, leaving their back free to ‘breathe’ and most of their torso unencumbered. Others prefer the convenience of a vest, keeping all your snacks and essentials close to hand. For longer distances, it can be nice having capacity for flasks or a bladder in a RaceVest, with the weight evenly distributed over the torso whereas on a fell race where only kit list needs to be carried (and this is where tradition comes in) a WaistBelt is the first choice for many.

Can I Wash My RaceVest?

Yes! Its a good idea to occasionally wash away all that sweat, dirt and oil that accumulates through regular use of your RaceVest. Just check all the pockets for forgotten jelly babies and fivers and undo the zips. Use a quick cycle and a specific outdoor wash then line dry; done! More Info Here

When's a Vest a Pack?

And when is a pack a vest!? A pack normally uses a more traditional shoulder strap system, alongside a waistbelt and/or sternum strap fro stability. A RaceVest is more like a piece of clothing, with fabric wrapping around the torso, both for stability and also allowing for extra pockets and storage. Packs are generally suited to larger loads as they can have more padding on the straps and weight through the waistbelt. However, the benefits of a vest, with its accessable storage on the move, we have tried to incorporate some of those features, alongside the fit and stability to larger loads in order to create VestPacks such as the Phantom 25.

What's the sizing like?

You can find our RaceVest Size Guide via the link on each product page, this includes measurement ranges for each size of RaceVest. RaceVests are unisex so it is often worth checking the size guide to ensure you get the right one.

Men's & Women's Backpacks?

Nope! Since all our backpacks are designed for running, they ride high on the back away from the running motion of the hips. This means back lenths is less of an issue and we are able to have a good degree of adjustability, to suit a range of body shapes, in the harness and shoulder straps. Some of our larger backpack sizes are better suited to larger frames, such as the Classic 32 whereas the smaller Phantom 18 would be a good choice for a smaller frame but they are both unisex.

What's the volume?

The number quoted after most of our backpacks denotes its total volume, though stretch mesh panels and waistbelt pockets usually add a little extra to that total!
